This book is very beautiful, very touching. It reaches down deep into your soul to bring out your inner compassion, your inner beauty, your inner YOU. This book teaches you to be happy with your life no matter what, cause in any other part of the world, someone is going through something tremendously worse than what you're going through. Whenever I get frustrated because my hair is super tangled and I can't get my brush through (I have REALLY bad hair) I think of the people in the army working so hard, not knowing whether they are going to live or die that same very day. Or the time I broke my arm (It's actually still broken right know) when my brother tripped. I thought of the positive side. At least I didn't break my writing hand! 😮😃😀Tags : This Journal Belongs to Ratchet [Nancy Cavanaugh] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Move over Diary of a Wimpy Kid―there's a new journal in town and it belongs to Ratchet. A book that is full of surprises...Triumphant enough to make readers cheer; touching enough to make them cry. ―Kirkus,Nancy Cavanaugh,This Journal Belongs to Ratchet,Sourcebooks Jabberwocky,1402281064,School & Education,Social Themes - Adolescence,Social Themes - Friendship,Diaries,Environmental protection,Environmental protection;Fiction.,Fathers and daughters,Fathers and daughters;Fiction.,Home schooling,Home schooling;Fiction.,Self-acceptance,Children's BooksAges 9-12 Fiction,Children: Grades 4-6,Fiction,General fiction (Children's Teenage),JUVENILE FICTION Social Themes General (see also headings under Family),Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Family Parents,Juvenile Fiction School & Education,Juvenile Fiction Social Themes Adolescence,Juvenile Fiction Social Themes Friendship,Juvenile FictionSchool & Education,Social Themes - General

Normally I like books geared to a younger audience like this one, but this one I stopped reading. It wasn't a badly written book, though pretty depressing, but what bugged me the most was the constant environmental preaching. **Some Spoilers Follow.**
Yes, I do think we need to take care of our planet, and I do try to do my part, but Ratchet's dad came across as an environmental "fanatic" and it turned me off. A few mentions of the cause wouldn't have hurt the story, but up to the part where I gave up there were constant sermons by "dad" about how everyone but him was hurting the planet, even so far as to steal keys from a construction company where he got arrested. That isn't the kind of thing I think children should be exposed to, especially when it was written as the proper course of action. Hello? I really got tired of his constant "Holier Than Thou" attitude. Heck, as a staunch environmentalist you'd think keeping automobiles "running" would also be against his principles, yet he constantly worked on them, even forced his daughter to help. Her homeschooling also seemed to be pretty lax. She admitted he didn't even read her papers! Actually, nothing seemed more important than Dad's environmental views. Maybe this was all worked out by the end, but it was too depressing and too aggravating for me to find out and I've deleted it. **End Spoilers.**
In conclusion, I found this story dissatisfactory and am sorry I bought it. Should have saved my money.
I love this book!
The shipping was super fast, came in the mail in less than a week.
I really recommend this book, I'm 13 & I finish this book in just 2 days.
I couldn't put the book down either.
The book was in great condition!
I rated this three stars because It had a very good plot, but it could have some more exciting events. I though that in the end Hunter's mom could've married with Ratchet's dad. It was too plain and could have something that caught the reader's attention. Something that changed the story. They also didn't really focus on the plot that much. However, the book overall was fine.
This book is like it was written by an child.
(A gifted child no doubt)
If you have lost your mother than it will be very understanding for you and your will have a deep connection with the main character Ratchet.
If not than you will feel extremely sad for Rachet and you may cry a little thoroughly the book.
The journal format is an acquired taste, but anyone can get used to it! I had to read this for a summer reading project and I was glad I did. Parts of the story made me tear up and cry with ratchet like I was actually there supporting her at that time. It is a wonderful book and I highly recommend you read it!
I loved this book. It is written for middle school youngsters but is entertaining and worth the read no matter what your age! It is a story that both touches the heart and tickles the funny bone. It tells the story of a motherless 11-year-old girl and how she learns the devastating truth about her mother and her father's relationship. Rachel survives and blossoms into the next stage of her life journey. I hope the author will tell more about this delightful character in future stories!
All the middle school students in our Battle of the Books group liked This Journal Belongs to Ratchet. The premise (a series of creative writing assignments) is ingenious and allows the character to unfold beautifully. Boys and girls alike cited it as a favorite among the 16 books we read for the competition.
