A Review of Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely

The Director and the Actress - 5++++ stars

If you've been reading Ms. Blakely's books as they come out, you will recognize several of the characters in this book. Jill happens to be the sister of Chris from Chris and McKenna's storyline. She is an actress with a past that she has done everything she can to keep hidden, even from family. We get hints of her pain and what she may have dealt with throughout the story.

Davis is a Director who saw Jill in one production and just knew that she would be the perfect actress for the new play that he has coming up. However, the Powers-that-be had other plans, so Davis insisted that Jill be the understudy for the main female character, knowing that she would get to play the role at least a couple of times from the history of the temperamental lead.

The chemistry between them and how much they fight to ignore it just blasts you in the face. There are some really heart wrenching parts that make you hurt for the characters, but there are some really happy ones as well. I loved seeing Kat and Bryan again, especially since Kat and Jill are still roommates until Kat and Bryan eventually get married. I really enjoy the way the characters intermingle from one story to another as it makes them seem more real. Great storyline and writing as usual!

Playing With Her Heart Lauren Blakely 9781490997926 Books Reviews

Lauren Blakey has a way of telling a story that sucks you in from the very first page. And this one did not disappoint. The passion, the pain, the joy, the heart wrenching guilt and all consuming love found its way into this story not only in the play the characters are performing, but also in the every day lives of our hero and heroine. It's the kind of storybook love we all dream of as kids when our prince or princess rides in on a white horse and steals our heart. It's a fairy tale we all want to star in right down to the happily ever after. It's a story that speaks to every part of you. And leaves your heart and your mind filled with joy.

But, it's also one of passion and heat and longing and desire. The complete lust the characters feel for each other is palatable. The combustible sensuality will set you on fire and leave you breathless. How they abstained from each other for so long baffles me but makes the story that much better. It is all consuming and delicious in every sense of the word.

Brava, Ms. Blakely!
Lauren Blakely's storytelling abilities are wonderful. I always know I'll experience every emotion in her books, and that's why I never hesitate to buy them.

Playing With Her Heart was another example of excellence. Characters you'll love, story arc you'll be captivated by, and witty and clever banter and dialogue that will carry you through the journey of Davis and Jill to love. This book was hard to put down, as are all Blakely's books. I loved that the themes of healing emotions from loss and betrayal were captured in this book, and captured beautifully. I felt their pain and rejoiced in their happiness.

And of course we meet Ryder, perfectly timed for The Knocked Up Plan.

A thoroughly enjoyable, enthralling book.
This book is free at the moment, I read the synopsis and decided I'd download it because even if I hated it (like I do the majority of the books I get free) at least I didn't waste money on it.

For once I loved a free book!! I fell in love with this story and finished it in a day. Jill and Davis have chemistry that burns through the pages. Davis could very well make the perfect book boyfriend. He's described as 'alpha' male, and in some aspects that's true, but he's a lot more than that. He's only bossy in the bedroom, but all other times he seems to be putty in Jills hands.
And for once I didn't find the h tired and annoying. I really liked Jill. She had an obsession with someone else at first, but that ends relatively fast when she figures out it's just that...an old obsession. There's a genuine story behind the romance and the characters. I was emotionally caught up, and that's what I love most about books. Getting caught up in the fictional lives of others, so when an author has the talent to make the characters come to life on the pages and sweep me up in the story I offer high praises.

The book was a great read and worth the money if you happen to miss out on the free deal. I might even go and buy some of this authors other work just because I liked her writing style so much in this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm not great at summarizing books, and I don't review often. However, I will say this - Lauren did a terrific job at masterfully weaving this story. There was enough detail to make you understand the characters journey, and even picture the places that she takes you (I'm referring to NYC). The main characters were well developed and believable. Davis - what a great guy. He is alpha(ish). He takes charge when he needs to, which I love. But he is also compassionate and insightful, traits that are somewhat lacking in the books I've been reading lately. Jill, the heroine, is strong, sassy, and talented. She had a major setback years ago, and this experience shaped who she became. The story engages you enough to want to understand WHY she became so skittish. All in all, a great read. One that I would highly recommend. Thanks, Ms. Blakey, for another great read!
I love how she entwines two characters who both have backgrounds to overcome in trusting the opposite sex. Both have experienced heartbreak and when hit their fiery love temptations with each other, they must overcome. Will their love blossom into a heated romance forever or are they just paths crossing in the night. Best book and I loved it
